You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone will be out in the world in a little over a month, and today I'm thrilled to reveal its first chapter!
This chapter is one of my favorites openings I've ever written because it features a girl who's unashamed of her desires and unafraid to go after what she wants even if it's a bit morally gray. It contains a handful of things I love to write about: Seattle, gloomy weather, music, a forbidden relationship, hints of family tension. And my all-time favorite emotion: yearning.
Interestingly, this chapter is mostly unchanged from my first draft. Once I found Adina's voice, I couldn't get it out of my head. In contrast, the other POV character, Tovah (who you'll meet on January 2!), was a bit tougher to get to know. For now, I'm pleased to introduce Adina in all her messy, lovely glory. Thank you so much for reading!
If you like this chapter and want to preorder the book, you can do so at the links below! I'm also running a preorder campaign in which everyone gets a bookmark and signed bookplate, plus a chance to win one of two grand prizes. Learn more about that here.
